Boomer slop games: the arcade era

Boomer slop is the oldest rung of the meme: the arcade cabinets, Atari cartridges and early PC games your parents or grandparents played, plus the ones they still play now, Solitaire and Minesweeper on a work computer.

These are the games that invented the medium. Calling them slop is the joke: Pong and Pac-Man are about as far from mindless content as it gets.

Slop is what the internet calls content people consume on autopilot, and the “xxxSLOP” meme pins that label on a generation’s favorite games: a wall of covers, the tier name in huge letters, and a wojak pointing at it. It is affectionate; most games on these lists are genuine classics.
